Worldwide shipments for digital printing Dubai are expected more than double every year till 2019, reveals Gartner, Inc.’s latest report, released last month.
By 2019, the Forecast: 3D Printers, Worldwide 2015 report reveals that more than 5.6 million devices will be shipped.
2015 is expected to see 244,533 units being shipped, while worldwide shipments will see a 103 per cent increase in 2016, reaching 496,475 units, the report states.
Building efficiency
His Excellency Mohamed Al Gergawi, the Chairman of the UAE National Innovation Committee, announced in June 2015 that Dubai will have the world’s first fully functional 3D printed building.
Adding to this, Al Gergawi explains that this will establish the UAE’s position as the global centre of technology in architecture construction and design. The Emirates aims to deploy the latest technologies to improve people’s lives and to develop its economy, in line with the country’s National Innovation Strategy.
According to a press statement, experts estimate that by using 3D printing in the construction a building, this can reduce the production time by 50 to 70 per cent, reduce labour costs by 50 to 80 per cent and can also save the amount of construction waste by 30 to 60 per cent.
Meanwhile, Gitex Shopper reveals that 3D printing is also one of the top ten trends for tech-savvy consumers this year. A statement by the annual technology event explains that the expansion of the 3D printing market seems inevitable, as it assists in reducing costs, offers an advanced printing process and possibilities of growth.
3D future?
Pete Basiliere, research vice-president at Gartner, explains in a statement: “The rapid quality and performance innovations across all 3D printer technologies are driving both enterprise and consumer demand, with unit shipment growth rates for 3D printers increasing significantly.”
3D printing seems to be of interest for numerous industries, from construction to offices to the aviation industry – the technology will be featured at the Dubai Airshow.
However, according to Gartner, the primary market drivers for consumer 3D printers are not household purchases but requests from schools and universities.
